Hairstylists: 5 Things to Look out for in Client’s Hair

As a Hairstylist, you know that maintaining healthy Hair is key to keeping your clients happy, satisfied and returning. However, sometimes your clients may not be aware of the damage they are causing to their Hair. As a Hairstylist, are you just making Hairstyles on request or you are also looking out for Hair trouble signs on your client? Here are five signs that your client's Hair is in trouble and what you can do to help them.

Note: These are not the only signs of a troubled Hair/scalp

1. Hairstylists Should look out for Signs of Split Ends

Split ends are a clear sign that your client's Hair is damaged. Split ends occur when the Hair cuticle is damaged, allowing the Hair to split at the end. This is often caused by heat styling, chemical treatments, or even environmental factors like the sun or wind.

What to do: The only way to get rid of split ends is to cut them off. Advise your client to come in for a trim every 6-8 weeks to keep their hair healthy and prevent further damage.

2. Hairstylists Should look out for Signs of Dry, brittle Hair

Dry, brittle Hair is another sign that the Hair is not in a healthy state. This can be caused by a variety of factors, including overuse of heat styling tools(hopefully, you as a Hairstylist are not part of this problem), exposure to harsh chemicals, or even overwashing.

What to do: Recommend that your client switch to a hydrating shampoo and conditioner and use a weekly deep conditioning treatment. You may also suggest they cut back on heat styling and opt for more natural Hairstyles.

3. Hairstylists Should look out for Signs of Excessive Shedding

Excessive shedding is a sign that your client's Hair may be weakened. This can be caused by stress, poor diet, or even medication.

What to do: Suggest that your client speaks with a healthcare professional to rule out any underlying medical conditions. You may also recommend a Hair supplement or a change in their diet to promote Hair growth and strength.

4. Hairstylists Should look out for Signs of Lack of volume

If your client's Hair has lost its bounce and volume, it may be a sign of some Hair trouble, especially if you are quite familiar with the client's Hair and notice these sudden changes. This can be caused by the overuse of heat styling tools or even just a lack of proper care.

What to do: Suggest that your client switch to a volumizing shampoo and conditioner and consider a volumizing mousse or spray. You may also advise them to limit their use of heat styling tools and use a heat protectant when they do.

5. Hairstylists Should look out for Signs of Hair Shaft Damage

Hair shaft damage can be caused by chemicals like dyes, heating tools etc. If you as a Hairstylist cannot identify when your client's Hair Shaft is damaged, it might lead to irreversible Hair loss.

What to do: Recommend that your client keep their hair properly moisturized while it is in the dyed state. You may also suggest they limit their use of heat styling tools and opt for more natural Hairstyles.

In conclusion, as a Hairstylist, it's important to keep an eye out for these signs of possible Hair damage in your clients. By educating them on proper Hair care and recommending the right products and treatments, you can help them achieve healthy, beautiful Hair.
